What is Pilates?

Pilates is a powerful, dynamic full-body movement system developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 1900’s. Originally called “Contrology,”–the science of control– the method utilizes the mind’s connection to the body in order to achieve overall strength and flexibility while creating a sense of physiological balance. Pilates worked with the military, boxers, and dancers. Clients will build strength and develop control and endurance in the body.

How often do I need to do Pilates to see results?

Joe used to tell people, “In ten sessions, you will feel the difference, in twenty you will see the difference, and in thirty you’ll have a whole new body.”

Consistency is the key to true change and to maximize results we recommend that you attend classes 2x per week at the studio. At Apex Pilates we offer class 7 days a week.

Can I practice Pilates everyday?

Absolutely!  The classes offered at Apex Pilates are safe to practice every day. Pilates will give you an incredibly challenging workout without resulting in pain a day or two later.  You will most likely feel a little sore when you first start Pilates, as you’ll discover deep, stabilizer muscles that you didn’t even know you had!  Once you’re hooked, you’ll want to learn even more, but our best advice would be to not get so caught up in trying to advance too quickly and to never forget about the fundamentals as they are essential in progressing in the Pilates method.

What is the Reformer?

The reformer is the second apparatus that Joe invented. Its essentially a moving mat on top of a carriage. The movements performed on the reformer both push and pull the body on the carriage using springs for resistance.

What is the Mat?

A system of exercises are performed on the mat in a progression from lying down, to seated, to standing. Each movement is initiated from the core or “the powerhouse” as we call it in Pilates and many of the exercises use the breath to engage the core. The mat exercises are often considered the most challenging.

What is the Tower?

Definitely a client favorite. This apparatus is a great way to get a full body workout with exercises focused on connecting to the core increasing strength and flexibility while using springs for both resistance and assistance.

What is the Wunda Chair?

This apparatus was one of the first pieces that Joseph Pilates added spring resistance to. The chair works strength, stability, stretch, and stamina.

Why should I take classes at Apex Pilates ?

We teach you mindful movement and how you can apply that in your everyday life inside and outside the walls of the studio. This is a fantastic community which includes our amazing clients and our exceptionally talented instructors.

How do I sign up for a class?

That depends!  If you’ve been doing Pilates at another studio (either privates or group classes) we invite you to take one of our ongoing classes. If you’ve never done Pilates before (or you’ve done DVD matwork at home) then you can either sign up for one of our ongoing classes (see schedule on MINDBODY class dates/times) or schedule a first time private with one of our instructors.

What is your Cancelation Policy?

We have a 24-hour cancellation policy.
*Group Class Cancellation Policy: If you do not cancel 24-hours in advance of a scheduled class you will lose a session on your class package; a late cancellation prohibits other clients from signing up or being added from the waitlist.
